Imagine more than 2000 kids smiling , laughing , enjoying and having their best time ever together … well kshana made this possible. By spreading smiles and moments of happiness on 26th jan 2000 at the birla krida kendre.
This event has always been very special for us as this was our first experience of handling such big event, the event was hosted to celebrate street child rights and also provide them with awareness on various social issues like AIDS , anti tobocca etc but in a different way and the means was entertainment this time.
We had made arrangements for game stalls, we made the kids play games like basket the ball, sand marble, and many other 1min competitive games, which kept the kids busy for a while.
One of our kshana member sarfaraz then started of with stand up comedy & mimicry this really set the mood for the event , post this there were a couple of dance performances by the kids for which they had really practiced hard. This was followed by anti gutka skit , which conveyed a very strong message on anti tobacco drive.
And after all this then came in the dance session where the DJ was playing some excellent music, each and every kshana member had a unique experience ,we danced, laughed and enjoyed with these kids to whom the world treats in a very different way.
This is one of the best events kshana has ever had and each one of us in kshana believe in creating a difference in some way or the other and well this was just the beginning…

Bal Prafulta
This was a big event in more ways than one. A huge ground, children from the neighbouring slums and about half a dozen NGOs together.
The buzz was unimaginable.
The children love this event as it marks the importance of Republic Day; a day to break away from everything to gain one goal liberty; liberty from their crisis, pain and sorrow. For this event the children leave every trace of reality outside the ground and come in just to ENJOY a day of fun, frolic and a little education. this is done by entrusting a couple of stalls per NGO which have different activities going on like tattoo artists, contests, talent hunts and career guidance. Also a DJ belting out the hits that keep the kids going.
A whooping 2500 children thanking you in unison is a once-in-a-lifetime unforgettable experience
Takes happiness to a new level.

Auckland Leprosy Home
Housing about 200 inmates infected with leprosy this shelter is located at Wadala. Though severly ill and abandoned by their siblings they still have the spirit to come together every evening and sing and talk with each other.
Our aim was to liven things up a bit there because the inmates were just so lonely that they were getting a little depressed.
We organized an evening of dance and a large game of antakshri where they sang their favourite old songs and relived many memories. Each inmate thanked us personally and they had composed a little song for us. The in house doctor gave us a guided tour of the shelter which was so clean and neat.
We played songs on the music system which got almost all of them on their feet bouncing to the tunes. An enriching experience that helped us all see a deep sense of contentment the inmates had within themselves. They knew they had been left to themselves by the ones closest to them. But also learnt to live with their illness and pain.

The most memorable one for Kshana as a team. This event broke all records and barriers. Held on Christmas eve it was the jolliest. We got the band Aasma to perform live for these children, who had been abandoned or orphaned due to some circumstances. The girls were all responsible for the younger ones. And took care of them and their every need. Two members of Kshana compared the show that had a girls versus boys theme. There were tele-matches and competitions that went ahead to prove the better of the two teams.
Each child got a drink and a snack that filled them up with all the energy for the band. Aasma came in and interacted with the children and sang most of their hits and some public demands of the kids. The children enjoyed the event and were thrilled at the prospect of this huge a band coming in just for them. Some danced, some showed off their moves to the other and the rest just wildly jumped up and down in complete ecstasy.
Santa Clause came along at the end of the event and distributed a gift to each child. Most of the children were so in love with the round and jolly Santa that they wanted to sit on his lap forever. We got invited on the following Sunday for a cricket match the kids were playing. This was the most amazing feeling of crazy fun being given and taken by children who we had met for the first time and some who we may not meet ever again

This boys shelter is quite renowned for its activities. This home shelters about 200 boys of different ages. Some of them work while others are still in school. They are full of zest and zeal to enjoy themselves. One of the boys had run away from a village in the interiors to make it big in Mumbai, but is now in a school and helps in the basic running of the shelter. Each child learns one sport or activity which could make them self sufficient.
At this event there was a magician with his amazing tricks that kept his young audience alert. Also a skit about human values was enacted to inculcate them in their lives. The kids came up and sang songs like their favorite stars. Some came up with the funniest jokes and quirkiest shayaries. We enjoyed ourselves more than anyone there. There was a game that required the kids to dress up a friend with the materials we provided to them. The funniest was when the guys got their warden all dressed up.
Towards the end the kids made us sign slam books that they had made themselves. Most of the kids sat and talked to us. The DJ kept the crowd rocking for about 2 hours. They could give any Hrithik Roshan and Ganesh Hegde a run for their money. The evening ended with snacks and drinks and laughs and giggles and smiles.

Bal Bhavan
This is a beautiful girls orphanage in Andheri that shelters about 100 girls. They are trained in singing, dancing and have their own method of education. These girls were a pleasure to be with because they interacted with us in a way that made us feel so good. We went there and decorated the place for them.
A game was played which required them to join a number of straws in a time limit which they enjoyed and play during their spare time even today. The magician was wonderful at his tricks and the girls wanted to learn some of them. We laughed and played with the younger ones. The music system was on and they made us dance through the evening.
They performed a number of dances for us which were so lively and full of fun. The girls were happy in their small world and made us feel at home. Each girl had a glint in her eye and a huge Thank you for us when it was time to leave.
